[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 25th that it will hold the '2020 Smart Construction Technology and Safety Expo' on the 27th at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
At this event, an awards ceremony for the winners of three competitions including the Smart Construction Challenge, a technology exhibition featuring 48 companies and institutions, keynote speeches, and expert forums will take place.
First, in the 'Smart Construction Challenge,' a total of 101 competing teams participated, and 32 outstanding teams were selected to receive the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award and prize money.
The 'National Safety Competition,' aimed at discovering creative ideas and excellent cases related to construction and facility safety management, selected a total of 18 outstanding works through two rounds of evaluation from 280 submissions.
In the 'Smart Construction Startup Idea Contest,' after evaluations including document screening, startup camps, mentoring, and the final presentation contest, 12 teams were selected as outstanding from a total of 78 teams.
The event will also feature technology exhibition booths with participation from 73 companies and organizations, showcasing advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
A forum inviting various experts in smart construction and sustainable infrastructure management will be held to share the latest trends and policy directions.
To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the opening ceremony, awards ceremony, and forum will be limited to under 100 attendees, and viewing will be limited to 200 people simultaneously. The event will also be broadcast live online.
Lee Sangju, Director of Technology Safety Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "Digitalization and smartification of construction present an important opportunity to elevate the entire construction industry to the next level," adding, "We will continue to promote expanded activation policies aimed at the full-scale practical application of smart construction."
