[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Actor Kim Doyoon shared an episode about filming while wearing a women's slip in the middle of winter.

On the afternoon of the 24th, Kim Doyoon participated in an interview at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, ahead of the release of the film Lucky Monster (directed by Bong Junyoung), where he talked about various aspects of the work.

Lucky Monster depicts the story of Do Maengsu (Kim Doyoon), who lives a life buried in debt, winning the first prize in the lottery after receiving signals from a mysterious auditory hallucination called Lucky Monster (Park Seongjun), and then going on a journey to find his wife Seong Ria (Jang Jinhui), who disappeared after a fake divorce, unfolding a wild tale of sudden wealth.

Kim Doyoon plays the character Do Maengsu, who becomes a sudden millionaire overnight, showcasing a unique performance through the extreme emotions of being chased by loan sharks and the process of searching for his missing wife after winning the lottery first prize.

On this day, Kim Doyoon said, “I am an ordinary citizen, and everyone lives under financial pressure. There was no difficulty in acting,” adding, “Regarding how much the audience empathizes and immerses themselves in the character, the director and I intentionally agreed not to get too immersed.”

The role suffering from chronic headaches was inspired by his mother’s image. Kim Doyoon said, “While researching many cases, I recalled my mother who suffered from chronic headaches. I referred to her expressions and breathing when she held her head in pain.”

About the role that went through extreme emotions, Kim Doyoon confessed, “I wondered if it was really necessary to go this far.” He added, “I understood the psychological state and empathized with the choices. I saw it as showing the birth of a monster due to certain situations, illusions, and so on.”

Kim Doyoon said, “I don’t think it’s a film with a profound life philosophy,” and added, “The director and I agreed to make an entertaining genre film. Of course, the theme suggested by the director will be embedded in the movie.”

Do Maengsu faces various events due to the lottery. Kim Doyoon laughed, saying, “I occasionally buy lottery tickets when I pass by, but I’m not very lucky.”

When asked about the most difficult scene to shoot, Kim Doyoon pointed to the scene where he runs through a residential area in the city wearing his wife’s slip. He said, “We filmed for a month in January 2019. It was a cold winter, and acting while running through a residential area in a slip was not easy. Since it wasn’t a big-scale film, we couldn’t control the area, so I attracted a lot of attention from people. Even a passing drunkard said something to me,” he laughed.

Kim Doyoon added, “The camera had to run along, and the director had to run behind, so filming was not easy. We had to shoot multiple times,” and continued, “People asked, ‘What are you filming?’ I never want to wear a slip again,” showing a continuous smile.

Lucky Monster will be released on December 3.
