The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 24th that it will operate the Women’s Violence Eradication Week, which integrates the Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence Eradication Weeks, in accordance with the Act on the Prevention of Violence against Women.
On the first day of the Eradication Week, the 25th, a commemorative ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Ferrum Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul. This event honors those who have contributed to preventing violence against women and encourages facility workers and field organization representatives who have worked to protect victims. The Presidential Citation will be awarded to the Seoul Sunflower Center, while the Prime Minister’s Citation will be given to Lee Soon-sim, Chairperson of Nanurihoe, and Jin Ran-young, former Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Jungnang Youth Sexual Culture Center.
Following the ceremony, a discussion titled "Achievements and Challenges in Responding to Digital Sex Crimes in 2020" will be held. Only presenters and discussants will attend in person, while general participants can watch via online streaming.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will conduct various campaigns during the Eradication Week. Minister Lee Jung-ok stated, "Although there is widespread consensus on solving the issue of violence against women, there is still a long way to go before eradication. We will strive to improve related systems and strengthen support for victims so that violence against women can disappear."
