[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] The Korea FPSB, the international certified financial planner CFP certification body, announced on the 24th that 55 candidates passed the 38th CFP qualification exam.

The total number of applicants was 236, an increase of 6 from the same period last year (230), and the pass rate was 23.7%, a similar level.

By industry, university students (35.6%) accounted for the largest number of applicants, followed by insurance (22.9%), general (14.4%), banking (11.4%), securities (10.2%), and financial planning (2.5%).

The top scorer in the general category was Jin Long (32, male), a Chinese national. Jin said, "I came to study at a domestic university from China 12 years ago and first obtained the AFPK qualification during graduate school. The advantage of it being an internationally recognized qualification caught my attention, and I eventually challenged myself to obtain the CFP qualification." After returning to China, he can be equally recognized as an international certified financial planner CFP by passing only the law and system-focused conversion exam. He is currently registered as an investment solicitation agent at Korea Investment & Securities, fulfilling the CFP practical experience requirements.

The top scorer in the student category was Lee Jae-woo (25, male) from Chonnam National University. Lee narrowly missed passing the IBK written exam by 2 points in the first half of this year. IBK grants 5 bonus points to CFP holders. He said, "In the competitive job market where the outcome is decided by a difference of 1 or 2 points, I did my best on the CFP qualification exam to receive the bonus points, and I ultimately achieved the amazing result of being the top scorer."

Hyun Ye-hee (23, female) from Sookmyung Women's University was the youngest successful candidate, and Kim Jung-im (52, female) from Samsung Life Insurance was the oldest successful candidate.

Among the top 20 successful candidates in this CFP qualification exam, the number of candidates by financial company was 4 from Woori Bank, 3 from Samsung Life Insurance, and 3 from Samsung Securities. The company with the most successful candidates was Samsung Life Insurance with 8.

Korea FPSB is preparing for the 77th AFPK qualification exam (to be held on the 28th), the last exam of this year. In accordance with the recent elevation of social distancing to level 2 in the metropolitan area due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the number of examinees per classroom has been limited to 20. They are also thoroughly preparing for strict test site management, including thorough disinfection before and after the exam, temperature checks, and hand sanitization upon entry.

Announcements of CFP passers and the schedules for next year's AFPK and CFP qualification exams can be found on the Korea FPSB website.
