Samsung Heavy Industries Scores 3 Trillion Won 'Order Jackpot'... Largest Single Order in History

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Samsung Heavy Industries has succeeded in securing the largest single shipbuilding contract in its history. This scale is equivalent to 100,000 mid-sized cars.

Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 23rd that it signed a ship block and equipment supply contract worth a total of $2.5 billion (2.8072 trillion KRW) with a European shipowner. The contract period is until December 2025.

As a result, Samsung Heavy Industries' order backlog increased again to over $20.1 billion ($21.1 billion) five months after recording $19.9 billion as of the end of June.

Through this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries achieved 45% of its annual order target at once. The cumulative order performance to date stands at a total of $3.8 billion.

Samsung Heavy Industries is expected to secure orders in large-scale LNG projects in Mozambique, Qatar, and there is growing anticipation for additional orders in container ships and crude oil carriers, which have recently resumed ordering.

A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, "We are making every effort to convert the currently signed Letters of Intent (LOI) for shipbuilding and additional option items into actual contracts within this year."
