[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] "Sea Island is the promised land."
Robert Streb (USA), ranked 380th in the world, achieved a PGA Tour victory after a long 6-year wait. This happened at the RSM Classic (total prize money $6.6 million) held on the 23rd (Korean time) at the Sea Island Resort Seaside Course in Georgia, USA (par 70, 7,005 yards). Although he faltered with a 2-under par on the final day, tying with Kevin Kisner (USA) at 19-under par 263, he ultimately secured the winning birdie on the second hole of the playoff at the 18th hole (par 4). The winner's prize was $1.18 million (1.318 billion KRW).
Streb earned his second career win at this tournament, having first won in 2014 (then called the McGladrey Classic). At that time, he also competed in a three-man playoff against Will MacKenzie (USA) and Branden DeJon (South Africa). It is interesting that Kisner was the champion in 2015. Despite shooting 7-under par, he could not overcome Streb's challenge. Cameron Tringale (USA) led with a daily best 8-under par, including five consecutive birdies from holes 5 to 9, finishing third at 18-under par 264.
