President Moon at G20 Summit Day 2... Expected Adoption of Leaders' Declaration

Session 2 'Inclusive and Sustainable Resilient Future'... COVID-19 Recovery, Trade, and Investment to be Included in the Leaders' Declaration

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in entered the second session of the 'Major 20 Countries (G20)' virtual summit at 10 p.m. on the 22nd (Korea time), themed "Inclusive and Sustainable Resilient Future."


This event, hosted by Saudi Arabia as the G20 chair country, is being held with member country leaders participating via video conference due to the issue of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


President Moon will deliver a keynote speech in the second session on the second day of the G20 summit. Ahead of the second session, the G20 held side events related to "Protecting the Earth," which covered approaches to the circular carbon economy.

After the second session, a leaders' declaration is expected to be adopted. The Blue House stated that President Moon's proposal regarding the cross-border movement of essential personnel such as businesspeople will be included in a more concrete form in the leaders' declaration.


Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, said, "The G20 leaders' declaration related to the cross-border movement of essential personnel such as businesspeople is expected to include the content that 'we will continue to seek specific measures to facilitate the movement of personnel.'"


A key Blue House official added, "The leaders' declaration will include content on overcoming COVID-19, health, trade and investment, transportation, digital economy, employment, gender equality, and climate change." The Blue House plans to provide detailed explanations about the contents of the leaders' declaration on the morning of the 23rd.
