'Major Queen' Kim Se-young (27, Mirae Asset) has secured her second win. On the 22nd (Korean time), at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, USA (par 70, 6,268 yards), she shot 6-under par on the third day of the LPGA Tour Pelican Women's Championship (total prize money $1.5 million), taking a commanding 5-stroke lead (14-under par 196). Ally McDonald (USA) is in second place (9-under par 201), and Stephanie Meadow (Northern Ireland) is in third (8-under par 202), both engaged in a tough chase.
Kim Se-young collected 7 birdies (1 bogey). Following her 5-under par the previous day, she again posted the daily best score. She opened the scoring early with a birdie on the 3rd hole (par 3), followed by consecutive birdies on the 6th and 7th holes. Although a bogey on the 8th hole (par 4) was unfortunate, she energized the back nine with four consecutive birdies from the 14th to 17th holes. Her green hit rate of 83.33% and 'computer iron shots' stood out. Currently ranked first in average score (68.39), the $225,000 winner's prize at this tournament acts as a driving force toward topping the money list.
It is noteworthy that Kim Se-young won her third major, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, on the 12th of last month. After becoming a major champion, she briefly returned home to rest and then departed again on the 7th. In an interview after the third round, she shared, "These days, I am watching 'The Last Dance' on Netflix," adding, "I am learning many things." The documentary depicts the prime of basketball legend Michael Jordan (USA). She expressed confidence, saying, "I will play aggressively on the final day as well."
From Korea, Hur Mi-jung (31, Daebang Construction) posted 2-under par to stand tied for 9th place (3-under par 207). Park Hee-young (33) is tied for 15th (1-under par 209), and Jeon In-ji (26, KB Financial Group) is tied for 19th (even par 210). World No. 1 Ko Jin-young (25) is tied for 28th (2-over par 212). Having stayed in Korea due to the COVID-19 pandemic before returning, she appears to need more time to adjust her competitive shot feel. Park Sung-hyun (27) also finished 70th (11-over par 221).
