"Living a New Life"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] '20-year divorced man' comedian Eom Yong-su (67) is getting married for the third time.
On the 19th, The Fact reported that Eom Yong-su will hold his third wedding ceremony with Korean-American clothing businessman Mr. L in LA County at the end of January next year.
The two met through an introduction by an acquaintance in June last year, and Eom Yong-su nurtured their affection by traveling back and forth to the U.S. two to three times.
Their wedding will be a small wedding held under the officiation of the pastor of the local church, who is Mr. L's son.
The couple plans to register their marriage immediately after the wedding.
Eom Yong-su told The Fact reporter the day before, "I have confirmed the wedding schedule for the end of January next year. I lived alone for nearly 20 years and had given up on marriage itself, but at the twilight age approaching my seventies, I met a really good person," adding, "I don't know if life has a third chance, but this time, I want to live sweetly, compensating for the loneliness I've had so far."
Eom Yong-su has mentioned the existence of an American girlfriend several times through broadcasts.
Previously, Eom Yong-su overcame a 17-year age difference and married actress Ms. Baek for the first time in 1989, but they divorced after seven years. At the time of the divorce, there was a legal dispute with Ms. Baek over the cause of the divorce. One year after divorcing Ms. Baek, he remarried single mother Ms. A, but they divorced after two months. After a two-year divorce lawsuit, they completely separated.
Eom Yong-su said, "As you know, both times the marriage broke down without even having time to feel marital love, and we painfully separated through divorce lawsuits. I had resigned myself to the idea that I would never meet a new woman and marry again. I think this time we met as a really good match."
The couple promised to marry when Eom Yong-su visited the U.S. for an event in LA last March, following his visit to New York in September last year. They originally planned to marry this fall, but the wedding was postponed to January next year due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation.
Regarding the wedding schedule, Eom Yong-su said, "Since the U.S. does not require separate quarantine for overseas arrivals, I will first go there and hold the first wedding ceremony. In Korea, when the COVID-19 situation eases in spring or fall next year, we plan to have a meal gathering with acquaintances as a substitute for the Korean wedding."
He especially shared, "I have never been so absorbed in anything in my life as I have been recently, and since promising marriage, I have been living a completely new life."
These days, Eom Yong-su is focusing on golf and studying English. Since dual citizenship is allowed for those over 65, he plans to obtain citizenship after marriage and live going back and forth between Korea and the U.S.
Eom Yong-su explained, "I am studying English now to successfully pass the citizenship qualification, and golf has become unavoidable because my fianc?e emphasized it as a marriage requirement. I have already played one or two rounds of golf in the U.S., but to match the level, I have no choice but to work hard."
Meanwhile, Eom Yong-su debuted as a theater actor in 1977 while attending the College of Engineering at Hongik University. He became a musical actor and officially debuted as a comedian by winning the gold prize at the 1979 TBC Dongyang Broadcasting Gag Contest and the 1981 MBC Cultural Broadcasting Radio 1st Gag Contest.
