Mapo-gu Operates Online Neighborhood Life Repair School

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) has prepared the resident-participatory education program ‘Online Neighborhood Life Repair School’ in collaboration with the Mapo-style neighborhood management company 'Surimapo Project Group' and will continue it until the end of the year.

The district planned the Neighborhood Life Repair School to provide residents with home repair know-how so that they can perform simple maintenance and repairs themselves.

Previously conducted offline, the education has been changed to an online format due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

As residents faced many restrictions on face-to-face activities due to COVID-19, they felt a thirst for learning, and with longer time spent at home, interest in home and self home repair increased. Reflecting this reality, the district decided to provide home repair education in an online format.

The Online Neighborhood Life Repair School is an interactive education where resident activists with home repair skills participate in real-time online sessions with participants to complete life repair kits together.

On the 27th, the district will hold an online Neighborhood Life Repair School under the theme ‘Using Silicone Easily When You Know How,’ and in December, themes such as ‘Homes Also Need Windbreakers’ and ‘Challenging Beginner Home Repairs’ will be covered.

Additionally, the Surimapo Project Group plans to make kits containing manuals and edited educational videos available offline for purchase, so residents who cannot participate in real-time education can also acquire home repair know-how using the life repair kits.

Meanwhile, on the 14th, a special offline Neighborhood Life Repair School session titled ‘Making Mosaic Tile Coasters’ was held at Sangam Social Box instead of online.

On that day, tile decorating activities using kits accessible even to beginners were conducted, receiving great enthusiasm from participants.

Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “I hope residents build skills to repair their homes through the Neighborhood Life Repair School and gain vitality in their daily lives. As online education becomes a new point of contact with residents in the COVID-19 era, we will continue to share diverse and beneficial content with many residents.”

Surimapo means ‘Mapo Renewed by Hand,’ and the 'Surimapo Project Group' carries out a ‘city-district upward and cooperative job creation project’ where resident activists solve various local housing environment issues through home repair skills while creating jobs.
