"Even Quarantine Shows 'Naeronambul'... Consistent Application Needed Tomorrow as Well"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 13th, Ha Tae-kyung, a member of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Labor Union's plan to hold a large-scale rally over the weekend to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the martyr Jeon Tae-il, saying, "The Moon Jae-in administration, which completely blocked the Gaecheonjeol rally to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), is allowing all Democratic Labor Union rallies," and added, "Even in quarantine measures, they are practicing double standards and dividing the people."
On the same day, Ha said on Facebook, "Quarantine policies that divide the people into 'my side' and 'your side' undermine public trust and jeopardize COVID-19 prevention," and added, "The government itself is trying to end the K-quarantine myth."
Ha pointed out, "The average number of COVID-19 confirmed cases over the past week is 127. This is a significant increase compared to the average of 50 before the Gwanghwamun rally and 71 before the Gaecheonjeol rally. Today, the daily confirmed cases are approaching 200," and added, "Even without large-scale group infections like Shincheonji or Sarang Jeil Church, the number of confirmed cases is rapidly increasing. This situation is more serious than during Gaecheonjeol, when gatherings of more than 10 people were banned and Seoul was locked down multiple times to prevent the spread of COVID-19."
Ha said, "If rally permissions fluctuate depending on who the target is, what kind of citizens would trust and follow the government's quarantine measures?" and stated, "During Gaecheonjeol, the government completely blocked rallies, saying that nothing is more precious than the lives and safety of the people. If that principle is correct, the same should be consistently applied to tomorrow's rally to avoid confusing the public."
