[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) signed a tripartite business agreement with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Council of Mayors and Governors of Cities, Counties, and Districts nationwide at the Blue House on the 11th to promote revitalization of return-to-farming and rural migration as well as urban-rural coexistence in celebration of the 25th Farmers' Day.

According to the agreement, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry will expand human exchanges between urban and rural areas involving corporate employees and retirees, and promote the purchase of local agricultural products. The Council of Mayors and Governors will actively pursue balanced regional development by expanding facilities and services for return-to-farming and rural migration and revitalizing the distribution of local agricultural products.

NACF will focus on supporting rural settlement for those wishing to return to farming or migrate to rural areas by providing information, various farming and welfare support, and financial services, as well as expanding sales channels for local agricultural products.

Lee Seong-hee, Chairman of NACF, stated, "In the post-COVID-19 era, the population returning to farming and rural migration is expected to surge. Through agreements with corporations and local governments, we will actively promote mutual cooperation projects so that agriculture and rural areas regain vitality and urban residents realize the importance of agriculture."

Additionally, at the commemorative ceremony, NACF held a sales event for ‘Korea Rice,’ which brings together representative rice varieties from all over the country, through Public Home Shopping. This event was jointly planned by NACF and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to promote consumption of domestically produced high-quality rice varieties amid the recent decline in rice consumption.

The rice varieties included in this Korea Rice event are regional representative rice known for their excellent taste: Haedeul from Gyeonggi, Odae from Gangwon, Sindongjin from Jeonbuk, Saeilmi from Jeonnam, Ilpum from Gyeongbuk, Yeonghojinmi from Gyeongnam, Chamdream from Chungbuk, and Samgwang from Chungnam. NACF plans to donate all proceeds from this Korea Rice sales event to public interest organizations.
