Two-Year Term from January 2021 to December 2022
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Professor Kim Young-ki of Dongseo University’s Department of Chinese Language (Director of the Confucius Academy) has been elected as the 18th president of the Korean Association for Chinese Studies.
Professor Kim was unanimously elected as the 18th president at the Korean Association for Chinese Studies 2020 Fall Joint International Academic Conference and General Assembly held on the 31st of last month at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Daeyeon Campus, Pukyong National University. His term is two years, from January 2021 to December 2022.
Professor Kim stated, “During my term, I will do my best to promote the development of the Korean Association for Chinese Studies and to facilitate communication and cooperation among members.” On the same day, he also received the newly established Merit Award, recognizing his significant contributions to the development of the association.
This year’s Korean Association for Chinese Studies Fall Joint International Academic Conference was co-hosted by Dongseo University Confucius Academy, the Northeast Asian Cultural Society, the East Asian Japanese Studies Association, and the Pukyong National University HK Project Group under the theme “Modern Reorganization of East Asian Humanities.”
The academic conference was held in a hybrid format, both online and offline, due to COVID-19. Over 100 scholars from universities nationwide passionately presented and discussed papers covering all fields of Chinese studies, including linguistics, literature, culture, and social sciences.
The Korean Association for Chinese Studies was founded in 1983 and currently has over 1,000 scholars and experts related to Chinese studies as members.
It is a nationwide academic society that encompasses research in all areas of Chinese studies, including linguistics, culture, and social sciences, and publishes the Korean Research Foundation-registered journal Chinese Studies four times a year.
