[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Two men in their 50s were arrested by the police for making entertainment workers at a Gangnam nightlife establishment drink cola mixed with a type of drug called 'Ecstasy.'
At around 10 p.m. on the 8th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul arrested men in their 50s, A (51) and B (55), on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. The police detained the two arrested men in a detention center and identified a third man who was not taken into custody, summoning him to appear at the police station. Among these three men, two were identified as Chinese nationals.
According to the police, the three men, including A, visited a nightlife bar in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 9:30 p.m. on the 8th and handed cola to three female workers, saying, "If you drink this, you will feel good." The cola was mixed with Ecstasy, a capsule-type drug.
When the women tried not to drink the cola, the men reportedly prevented them from leaving the room and forcibly turned off the lights inside the room.
The entertainment workers who drank this said to the owner a few minutes later, "I feel very dizzy," and the owner immediately reported it to the police. The three workers were taken to the hospital complaining of chest pain.
The suspects admitted to taking the drug but claimed, "The women drank it knowing it was a drug," while the victims insisted, "The drug was secretly mixed in."
The police stated that since the claims of the victims and suspects conflict, they plan to clarify the facts through a confrontation interrogation later.
The police are investigating whether the drug was taken and the source of acquisition based on the drugs secured at the scene.
Ecstasy is a psychotropic drug that causes hallucinations and is usually distributed in pill form. After taking this drug, within 20 to 60 minutes, the mouth becomes dry, pupils dilate, and a dramatic state of excitement is experienced. This drug causes serious damage to serotonin nerve cells in the brain and nerve cells related to learning and memory, as well as various side effects such as delirium, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and paranoia.
