Smart Factory Exhibition '2020 Smart Manufacturing Machinery Industry Expo' Held... 'Korean New Deal Online'

The ‘Smart Manufacturing Machinery Industry Exhibition (SMEX 2020)’ will be held online starting from the 25th. It is jointly hosted by Incheon Tourism Organization, Gyeonggi-Incheon Machinery Industry Cooperative, and Messe Isang Co., Ltd., with support from Incheon Metropolitan City.

Held under the theme ‘Korean New Deal, the Beginning of Smart Factory,’ the government announced the Korean New Deal in July as a national project to recover the economy amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. The Korean New Deal consists of three pillars: Digital New Deal, Green New Deal, and Strengthening Safety Nets, selecting ten representative tasks. Among them, the Smart Green Industrial Complex aims to transform industrial complexes into smart and eco-friendly manufacturing spaces based on digital infrastructure, featuring high productivity (smart), high energy efficiency, and low pollution (green). It is being promoted in connection with industrial complex remodeling and smart factories.

Incheon Metropolitan City is also promoting the structural advancement of aging industrial complexes and the creation of smart innovation complexes. The Namdong National Industrial Complex regeneration project is underway to improve worker convenience by expanding insufficient infrastructure and support facilities within the complex. Through the formation of investment associations for smart innovation complexes and the selection of youth industrial complexes, AI and IoT convergence transformation companies and excellent technology startups within the complexes are supported. The city is pushing to distribute 600 smart factories by 2023 through smart factory education, pre-diagnostic consulting, and support for implementation projects.

The Smart Manufacturing Machinery Industry Exhibition reflects the policy direction of the government and Incheon City and the trend of companies adopting smart factories, serving as a platform for the dissemination of smart factories and information exchange in the smart manufacturing industry.

This exhibition will be held online in response to the rapidly approaching untact (non-face-to-face) and digital transformation trends due to COVID-19. It will showcase advanced technologies and solutions including smart factory solutions, automation, digital robot systems, and smart machine tools, which are core to digital industrialization.

Participating companies can promote their businesses and products to exhibition visitors and new buyers through the online exhibition platform until the end of the year. Differentiated services such as matching services using data analysis will be provided to enable continuous promotion.

The online export consultation meeting, conducted to promote exports and revitalize the economy for participating companies, will invite buyers from six regions including Russia, China, India, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, aiming to achieve tangible export results for small and medium suppliers.

The ‘Online Public Institution Purchase Consultation’ is organized by the Small and Medium Venture Business Administration offices in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, with participation from public institutions in each region to support participating companies’ entry into the procurement market and activation of domestic sales channels.

During the event, the ‘Online SMEX Forum,’ a professional conference addressing smart manufacturing industry issues such as 5G, IoT, and AI, will also be held.

Key speakers include ▲Park Han-gu, Head of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Promotion Team at the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology ▲Kim Bo-hyun, Head of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Strategy Team at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology ▲Moon Moon-chul, Team Leader of the Smart Industrial Complex Team at the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation ▲Choo Hyun-ho, Ph.D., of the Innovation Learning Center at the Korea Industrial Intelligence Association. They will introduce the smart & green new deal policy, a Korean New Deal project, and present strategies on the direction of domestic manufacturing companies in the smart manufacturing era.

Additionally, sessions reflecting the latest industry trends in various smart manufacturing sectors will be held by companies such as ▲SK Telecom ▲CJ OliveNetworks ▲SAP Korea ▲TIRAYUTECH.

A representative of the exhibition organizer stated, “With the prolonged low growth in manufacturing due to COVID-19 and ongoing global economic recession, we hope this exhibition will achieve manufacturing innovation in the untact era, fundamentally strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic manufacturing industry, secure overseas distribution networks for companies, and create new domestic markets, resulting in tangible business outcomes.”
