Goyujeong's Remarried Husband "Investigate the Negligent Police Officers"... Petition Submitted to the National Police Agency Attorney Bu Ji-seok, the legal representative of A, the ex-husband of Go Yu-jeong, submitted a petition to the National Police Agency on the 9th requesting an inspection of the police investigators related to the "step-son murder case."

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Regarding the stepchild murder charge for which Go Yoo-jeong (37), who was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court for the murder of her ex-husband, was acquitted, the biological father of the stepchild requested an inspection of the police station in charge of the investigation to the National Police Agency.

On the 9th, Bu Ji-seok, the legal representative of Mr. A, Go’s remarried husband, met with reporters in front of the National Police Agency in Migeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, before submitting a petition, saying, "The responsibility for the acquittal on the stepchild murder charge lies with the police," and "I came here to request disciplinary action through an inspection."

In particular, Attorney Bu revealed that the Cheongju Sangdang Police Station in Chungbuk, which investigated the case, engaged in actions to prevent allegations of inadequate investigation. He disclosed a text message, stating, "When we tried to disclose the case to the media at the time, the police said, 'There is a smoking gun that Mr. A is the culprit. If you only listen to Mr. A, you will get into big trouble,'" and added, "Fortunately, the media companies did not succumb to the intimidation, so Mr. A was able to clear his name."

Attorney Bu also claimed, "During the confrontation interrogation with Go Yoo-jeong, when Mr. A asked if there had been any cases where a 5-year-old child was suffocated on an adult’s leg, the head of the investigation department said, 'Such cases can be fabricated,'" and "The investigation team leader, upon hearing the unfortunate news about Mr. A, posted on a broadcast program by friends, but the police found out the phone number and prevented the contact."

Attorney Bu said, "I submitted the petition because I believe that informing about the police’s intimidation to cover up the inadequate investigation will prevent such incidents from happening again," and pointed out, "If the scene had been preserved at the time of the stepchild’s death, Go Yoo-jeong would not have been able to destroy evidence, and if she had been investigated properly, the outcome would have been different." He added, "We have no choice but to submit the petition due to a trial result that the public cannot accept," and requested, "We trust the police’s internal investigation and ask that appropriate disciplinary actions be taken."

Mr. A previously expressed his frustration when the Supreme Court confirmed Go’s acquittal on the stepchild murder charge, saying, "Due to the police’s wrong judgment at the beginning of the case, only the deceased remains, and the perpetrator is absent, turning it into an unsolved case," and "The police believed Go’s false statements and proceeded with the investigation."

The stepchild died in March of last year. At the beginning of the investigation, the police excluded Go from the list of suspects because she was sleeping in another room and judged it as a simple suffocation death. It was only two months later, after the ex-husband murder case occurred, that Go was placed under investigation. However, direct evidence such as the mattress and blanket, which would have left traces, had already been discarded.

Ultimately, the police had no choice but to proceed with the investigation based only on indirect evidence. It was confirmed that Go had been prescribed sleeping pills before the stepchild’s death, and these sleeping pills were found in the stepchild’s body, and that Go had searched for articles about "pillow suffocation death of a mother with dementia." However, the court judged that it was difficult to conclude "Go committed the murder" based solely on such indirect evidence and acquitted her.
