Woojin Signs Technical Development Agreement for Offshore Wind Power with KEPCO Engineering & Construction

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Woojine announced on the 9th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for technology exchange in the offshore wind power sector with Korea Electric Power Technology (hereinafter KEPCO E&C) at KEPCO E&C headquarters in Gimcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Through this business agreement, both companies agreed to cooperate in ▲ offshore wind power maintenance ▲ equipment diagnosis systems ▲ power quality monitoring systems (PQMS) ▲ turbine condition monitoring system technology development. They also plan to discuss forming a consultative body to strengthen technology development and competitiveness in power generation projects.

A Woojin official said, “In the case of floating offshore wind power, which is attracting attention as a game changer in the offshore wind market, vibration diagnosis and control technology are essential due to the significant influence of wind speed and wave height. We will apply the measurement and diagnostic technologies accumulated in various industries such as onshore wind power, nuclear power plants, and plants to offshore wind power generation.”

Woojine is a sensing specialist company that produces industrial measuring instruments and equipment diagnosis systems. Woojin’s equipment diagnosis system for wind power generation has been applied to Korea Midland Power’s Yangyang Wind Power Plant and Ukraine’s Tarkhankut Windfarm.

The equipment diagnosis system monitors the condition of major rotating machinery such as turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment in industrial sites. Woojin’s system is used by various industries, including domestic steel companies such as POSCO and Hyundai Steel, as well as Hyundai-Kia Motors, Korea Gas Corporation, Korea Midland Power, and Korea District Heating Corporation, including Doosan Heavy Industries.

Meanwhile, KEPCO E&C is conducting the 100MW-class Jeju Hallim Offshore Wind Power Project and is expanding technology development related to offshore wind power.
