"It is unthinkable for a major company like Nexon to be absent from G-Star, the biggest game festival that wraps up the year" (Lee Jung-heon, CEO of Nexon Korea)
The 'big brother' of the gaming industry, Nexon, will participate in 'G-Star 2020,' the largest domestic game show, starting on the 19th. Nexon stated, "As the gaming industry has been generally exhausted due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) this year, we decided to join with the hope that 'G-Star 2020' will become an opportunity to regain vitality."
Nexon has participated in the event for 14 consecutive years from the first G-Star in 2005 until 2018. Over the years, Nexon has taken up a significant portion of G-Star with various attractions, earning the nickname 'NexStar' (Nexon + G-Star).
At the first G-Star in 2005, Nexon surprised the industry by installing a circular screen measuring a total of 40 meters and a 5.1 channel sound system. It was the first domestic game company to build an independent structure for video viewing, minimizing spatial constraints. Nexon also unveiled new characters for existing games during the G-Star period. For example, Mabinogi Heroes revealed 'Karok,' a character modeled after mixed martial artist Bob Sapp, at 'G-Star 2010.'
In 2014, Nexon drew attention with a bold booth design centered on media art. The media gallery featuring a 360-degree video theater, the open-stage Super Stage, and Mobile Spot attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors over four days. At G-Star 2016, Nexon set up a record 400 booths.
In 2018, Nexon gained attention through influencer collaborations by hosting the largest-scale eSports tournament for 'FIFA Online 4,' the 'EA Champions Cup Winter 2018,' which featured soccer player Park Ji-sung's direct participation. Park Ji-sung said at the time, "I am proud to be able to show enjoyable matches to eSports fans," and added, "I hope this will be an opportunity to increase interest in both soccer and eSports."
Additionally, Nexon operated Nexon Studio, where YouTubers like Dotty and Daedoseogwan communicated with viewers in real-time to promote games.
Expectations are high for this year's awards ceremony as Nexon has consistently won at the Korea Game Awards held at G-Star. The Korea Game Awards is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This year, Nexon was nominated for the grand prize with Netmarble's 'V4.' 'Baram-ui Nara: Yeon' (The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon) was also nominated for the grand prize. 'FIFA Mobile' was selected as a nominee for the Popular Game Award.
