Mirae Company Signs MOU for All-Solid-State Battery Commercialization Cooperation with CIS and DH

Mirae Company Signs MOU for All-Solid-State Battery Commercialization Cooperation with CIS and DH

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Mirae Company (CEO Kim Jungoo) has signed MOUs with secondary battery manufacturing equipment companies that have secured technological competitiveness in various fields to commercialize all-solid-state batteries, known as the next-generation "dream battery," and established collaborative relationships.

On the 6th, Mirae Company signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with CIS, a secondary battery electrode process equipment company, and DH, a secondary battery assembly process equipment company, to promote mutual cooperation across the entire business spectrum including technology development, sales, production, and customer service for the commercialization of all-solid-state batteries. They have already been jointly carrying out a project to develop manufacturing equipment for all-solid-state battery cells, led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, since June.

The companies participating in this MOU signing all belong to the materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) companies that the government has recently been supporting to strengthen mid- to long-term competitiveness. Among them, Mirae Company and CIS are World Class 300 companies.

Companies selected for World Class 300 are evaluated as medium-sized and small enterprises with the will and potential to grow into global companies, receiving intensive nurturing and support from government and affiliated organizations such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Mirae Company was selected as a World Class 300 company in 2016, and CIS in 2017.

Since successfully domesticating the display post-process equipment Edge Grinder for the first time in 2000, Mirae Company has built a technology portfolio covering processing technology, inspection technology, and laser technology through continuous technological development.

Mirae Company is collaborating comprehensively with CIS, which supplies secondary battery electrode process equipment to LG Chem, Samsung SDI, Northvolt, Panasonic, and DH, which delivers secondary battery assembly process equipment to Samsung SDI, making it possible to expect turnkey supply of all-solid-state battery manufacturing lines.

Mirae Company is responsible for core areas of all-solid-state battery manufacturing technology, developing vision inspection and X-ray nondestructive inspection equipment for process condition optimization and defect detection, as well as uniform pressure presses and stacking equipment.

CIS is in charge of developing equipment for laminating solid electrolyte separators, cathode composite electrodes, and anode electrodes, while DH is responsible for developing equipment that notches laminated sheets to a certain size and equipment that packages battery cells. Securing these key technologies of the all-solid-state battery manufacturing process at once is expected to accelerate the commercialization of all-solid-state batteries.

The sharing of sales networks and infrastructure among the three companies is also anticipated. Mirae Company has sales capabilities and local customer service bases in Korea, China, and Japan, where investment and production in the display and semiconductor sectors are active, while CIS and DH have various domestic and international sales bases through their business relationships with major secondary battery companies. This mutual sharing of sales bases is expected to be advantageous in securing a competitive edge in orders in the global all-solid-state battery market in the future.

Kim Jungoo, CEO of Mirae Company, said, "To secure core technologies in the next-generation secondary battery field of all-solid-state batteries and to preoccupy the market, collaboration among companies with technological competitiveness is essential," adding, "Through collaboration with CIS and DH, which already possess core technologies and sales bases in the secondary battery market, Mirae Company's secondary battery equipment business expansion will also accelerate."

Additionally, CEO Kim added, "Mirae Company focuses its management policy on developing and securing advanced technologies, and through cooperation with technologically competitive companies, we will surely lead the commercialization of all-solid-state battery process equipment to success."
