Road Traffic Authority Selects 8 Issues Through Contest

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Next year's written driving license test will include questions proposed by the general public.

The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 5th that the results of the "Driving License Written Test Questions Public Participation Contest" were reflected in this year's revision of the driving license written test question bank.

The Authority previously conducted a contest for about 100 days starting in February to incorporate various opinions from experts and the public into the written test questions, aiming to raise awareness of safe driving and reduce traffic accidents. A total of 86 people participated in the contest, submitting over 300 questions related to the dangers of black ice (freezing phenomenon), management methods for eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen cars, and dilemma zones.

The questions were first screened by an external expert review panel (33 questions, 20 question creators), and after review by professional question writers, they were finally selected in the 2020 revision of the written test question bank. The eight selected questions will be applied to the 2021 written test question bank. These questions will undergo foreign language translation and sign language video production before being published on the Authority's website at the end of the year.

Nam Taek-hwa, head of the Driving License Headquarters at the Authority, said, "To foster a safe and considerate traffic culture, we hold a public contest every year to reflect the experiences of the public in revising the written test questions," and added, "We ask for much interest and participation in next year's public participation contest for written test questions."
