Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 5th that it will exclusively plan and launch fleece reversible jackets, which have rapidly emerged as a trendy item, in collaboration with the brand Columbia. Fleece refers to a material made from the down or soft wool obtained from sheep, and it is lightweight and highly insulating, making it widely used in jackets, blankets, hats, and other accessories.
The interchange jacket introduced by Shinsegae and Columbia features a fleece and windbreaker that can be separated, allowing two types of outerwear to be worn at once. The price is 359,000 KRW.
An online special exhibition reflecting the non-face-to-face consumption culture has also been prepared. Popular outdoor and sports brand outerwear will be offered at special prices through SSG.com.
First, until the 8th, SSG.com is holding the "Black Yak Family Sale." This event offers products ranging from kids to outdoor items, with representative products including unisex fleece jackets priced at 67,200 KRW and kids' down jackets at 79,200 KRW. Following this, the sports brand Fila is offering Boa fleece jackets at a special price of 47,200 KRW until the 8th.
Reversible fleece has gained attention as a "smart one-piece" at a reasonable price due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, which has reduced outdoor activities such as working from home. This contrasts with last year's customers who separately prepared clothing for office looks and outdoor activities.
Additionally, fleece made from animal welfare and eco-friendly materials, featuring trendy designs such as leopard prints and oversized fits, is gaining attention as a trendy product this winter with its cost-effectiveness.
Reversible products that can be worn on both sides allow for a different atmosphere with just one piece of clothing and are popular mainly among young customers as they are suitable for office looks and everyday life.
In fact, looking at Shinsegae Department Store's outdoor and young casual categories for this fall and winter, the proportion of fleece material products by brand has doubled compared to last year.
In particular, reversible products that can be worn on both sides have increased their share by about 30% compared to the previous year, attracting the attention of customers in their 20s and 30s. In the young casual category, which is popular among trend-sensitive customers in their teens and 20s, the proportion of reversible fleece has nearly tripled compared to last year, proving that related products are the trend.
With fleece leading this winter's trend, the outdoor category grew by 24.5% in October alone. This figure surpasses the growth rate of premium padding such as Moncler (23.8%) during the same period.
Choi Moon-yeol, Executive Director in charge of fashion at Shinsegae Department Store, said, "The recently sluggish fashion category is gradually recovering centered on functional outerwear," and added, "We will continue to introduce differentiated products unique to Shinsegae for customers preparing for winter."
