The Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Association for ICT Promotion (KAIT) will hold the "11th Telecommunications Service User Week" event online for two days from November 4 to 5 to promote a user-centered culture of safe and convenient telecommunications service use.
This event, under the slogan "Contactless Era! A Safe World with Users," will feature various programs including a "Commemorative Ceremony," "Presentation of Best Practices in User Protection," "Telecommunications Service Utilization and Damage Prevention Education," and a "Post-COVID-19 Era Telecommunications User Protection Talk Concert."
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the commemorative ceremony and all side events will be held online.
In his congratulatory speech, Han Sang-hyuk, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, emphasized, "In an era where contactless interactions have become routine, the importance of telecommunications connecting disconnected people has grown even more. It is necessary to strengthen support for marginalized groups so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of telecommunications services without inconvenience and to make great efforts to prevent unexpected damages." He added, "The KCC will continue to pay close attention and effort to create a telecommunications ecosystem where users are the owners."
Additionally, plaques of appreciation will be awarded to the Korea Blind Union (damage prevention education institution) and instructor Choi Sun-hee (damage prevention education instructor) for their contributions to enhancing telecommunications service user rights, and outstanding works will be selected and awarded from the entries of the "Damage Prevention Work Contest."
Following this, a presentation of best practices in user protection by telecommunications operators and education by IT professional YouTube creators will take place. As complaints and damage cases related to mobile apps have recently increased, YouTube creators will explain in an easy-to-understand manner precautions when using pre-installed apps and procedures for refunding unclaimed telecommunications fees.
On the 5th, online education for vulnerable groups by a damage prevention education specialist will be conducted, and a talk concert with user protection policy experts will be held to discuss strengthening user capabilities and creating a user-centered ecosystem in the post-COVID-19 era.
Moreover, various side events will be held to allow users to participate online directly, including collecting opinions on the smartphone pre-installed app policy, authentication for checking unclaimed telecommunications refunds, an acrostic poem contest (N-haengsi) for blocking harmful media for youth, and comment raffles.
