[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Institute of Science and Technology (President Kang Ki-seong) held the ‘2020 Startup Club Item Competition’ at the Student Welfare Center on campus on October 28.
This competition, conducted as part of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Support Project for Junior Colleges, was organized to encourage students aspiring to start businesses and to discover creative ideas.
After a preliminary round open to all enrolled students, seven startup club teams advanced to the finals. To ensure professionalism and objectivity in judging, Daewon Park, CEO of Leading Solution, and Yong-guk Kwon, Head of Sharpengot Co., Ltd., were invited to evaluate the ideas based on originality and actual startup feasibility.
As a result of the final evaluation, the grand prize was awarded to the Clean Bottom club from the Department of Drone Spatial Information, advised by Professor In-gon Joo, for developing the ‘Shoe Care Home Appliance.’
This product added the concepts of disinfection and sterilization to the existing shoe dryer, realizing a disinfection lifestyle appliance (Shoe Care) aimed at using shoes in a comfortable state and achieving perfect sterilization.
The NothingNew club from the Department of Electrical Engineering, which developed a ‘Small Wind Turbine with Passive Pitch Control,’ won the Excellence Award, and the Medifil club from the Departments of Health Care Administration and Avionics and Telecommunications, which developed a ‘CID-based Hospital Visitor Registration Kiosk,’ received the Merit Award.
Additionally, the Janghaengbok club from the Department of Funeral Administration and Welfare, which presented the ‘Letter of Hope & Return Anabada’ project, and the BIST Dream Food Team club from the Department of Hotel and Food Service Cooking, which submitted ‘Turtle Yakgwa & Turtle Nut Sandwich,’ were awarded Encouragement Awards.
Hong Sung-il, Director of Industry-Academia Cooperation, stated, “Busan Institute of Science and Technology is striving to discover entrepreneurial talent by operating various startup-related programs such as basic education in MBA course style, startup camps, and field visits through the Startup Support Center established in accordance with the government’s startup support policies.”
Director Hong added, “For enrolled students nurturing the dreams of young entrepreneurs, we are forming various expert mentor groups linked with companies and universities and preparing multifaceted support plans to strengthen students’ startup capabilities.”
Among the awarded works, outstanding items will proceed with patent applications and prototype production, and will be exhibited at international exhibitions such as the Seoul International Invention Fair.
