Seongdong-gu Doseon Children's Park Reorganized as 'Children's Adventure Playground'

Creative Play Equipment such as Combination Play Structures, Trampolines, and Mounding Play Areas Harmonized with Tree Landscaping and Nature

Seongdong-gu Doseon Children's Park Reorganized as 'Children's Adventure Playground'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) has transformed ‘Doseon Children's Park’ in Wangsimni Doseon-dong into a ‘Children's Adventure Playground’ equipped with unique play equipment that fosters children's adventurous spirit and ensures safety, opening on the 5th.

Doseon Children's Park is located in an area with many child-use facilities such as nearby daycare centers, resulting in high demand for play spaces. However, there was a significant lack of playgrounds and play equipment where children could freely run and play.

Accordingly, the district signed a business agreement for the ‘Public-Private Partnership Children's Playground Improvement Project’ with Seoul Metropolitan Government, Kolon Corporation, and Save the Children, and began creating a distinctive playground composed of diverse and unique play equipment, moving away from the monotonous typical playground designs.

Instead of the usual static play equipment like slides and swings, a demand survey on the play equipment children actually want was conducted, leading to the installation of play equipment such as jungle gyms, complex swings, trampolines, and sand playgrounds that allow children to directly experience and develop creativity through physical activity.

Additionally, the existing tree spaces were refurbished to create a nature-friendly landscape where children can feel the four seasons, and a bumpy mounding play area was created on the ground for children to play freely and creatively.

A district official stated, “To create this playground, local child centers, daycare centers, related institutions, and parents formed a ‘Creative Playground Operation Council’ and directly participated in the design, planning, and construction processes. Especially meaningful is that through a children's design workshop, the playground was created by directly incorporating the opinions of children about the playground they want.”

Earlier, in July, the district established ‘Children's Dream Park,’ a children-only play park on a 5,300㎡ vacant lot in Haengdang-dong, featuring creative play equipment such as zip lines, multi-courts, and water drops, which has gained explosive popularity among residents. The district is also leading the guarantee of children's right to play by transforming playgrounds in five parks, including the old and under-equipped Geumhosan Park, into ‘Creative Playgrounds.’

Mayor Jeong Won-oh said, “I am confident that a city where children are happy and respected is a happy city where all residents want to live. We will continue to strive to create creative children's playgrounds where children can nurture their dreams, imagination, and creativity, and work harder to make Seongdong-gu a better place to live where children's voices and opinions are reflected and their right to play is fully guaranteed.”
