[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Mobis is formalizing the remote work system that had been temporarily implemented since February in line with the 'untact era' trend.
Hyundai Mobis announced on the 1st that it will officially introduce and operate a remote work system based on a smart work environment without time and space constraints starting this month as an official HR system. Hyundai Mobis is the affiliate that has led institutional experiments within Hyundai Motor Group to establish a horizontal and autonomous organizational culture.
The introduction of this remote work system is being implemented to enhance employees' creativity and work convenience in order to quickly secure core competitiveness centered on future cars such as autonomous driving, electrification, and infotainment. While many companies temporarily operated remote work systems due to COVID-19, it is unusual for a large manufacturing-based company with more than 10,000 employees to make such a remote work system permanent.

Since early this year, Hyundai Mobis has been implementing the remote work system mainly at its headquarters and research centers and has been considering mid- to long-term changes in the work environment by conducting employee satisfaction evaluations. Even as social distancing measures were eased, remote work continued, confirming the positive functions of the system, a Mobis official explained.
Remote work is conducted by registering the work plan in the company system a day in advance and remotely accessing the company PC through a personal computer or a company-issued laptop. Through the remote system, all work systems such as video conferencing systems, performance management systems, and collaboration tools can be used from home. This can be seen as a result of Mobis’ continuous investment in non-face-to-face work platforms since it first introduced a company-wide video conferencing system in the industry in 2001. Hyundai Mobis is also considering including employees at local business sites in the remote work target group, taking into account the characteristics of each site.
A Hyundai Mobis official said, "The main reason for promoting this is that employees save commuting time and their work immersion has increased in good condition," adding, "We judged that the introduction of remote work is essential to transform into an ICT company level where creativity and diversity are important."
