"Feeling the Accumulation of Hypocrisy and Duplicity in the Current Administration"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 31st, the People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for setting a nomination policy for candidates in the Seoul and Busan mayoral by-elections and initiating a party-wide vote to amend the party constitution, saying, "Is it the image of a responsible political party to flip principles and promises as easily as eating meals depending on political advantages and disadvantages?" and added, "The hypocrisy and duplicity of the current administration feel increasingly piled up."
Kim Ye-ryeong, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement on the same day, "They participated in the proportional representation party, which they disparaged as a disguised party, citing the will of party members, and now they are shamelessly breaking the five-year-old promise that the party responsible for causing the by-election should not field candidates, and are changing the party's constitution. It's outrageous," she said.
Spokesperson Kim pointed out, "Despite having to fill a one-year vacancy at the cost of 83.8 billion won of taxpayers' money due to the shocking reason of sexual harassment by a local government official from their own party, there is no sign of genuine reflection or self-restraint from the Democratic Party."
Kim added, "Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon should fulfill the duty of a responsible political party by sincerely expressing an apology to the victim," and said, "I hope he will offer a sincere and dignified apology and response, looking at the victim and the public, without any excuses or conditions."
