[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Choi Dae-jip, president of the Korea Medical Association (KMA), announced that the issue of retaking the practical exam for the medical licensing examination (KMLE) has entered the resolution phase, and practical processes are underway.
On the 31st, President Choi wrote on Facebook, "The issue concerning fourth-year medical students taking the KMLE has entered the resolution phase this week." He added, "Practical processes for the practical exam are in progress. We confirmed the positions of the ruling party, government, and Blue House on Tuesday and Wednesday this week." He continued, "The government side has stated that no further controversy should be created and that there should be no reversal of their position," emphasizing, "We had sufficient dialogue until last Wednesday, and thus I stated the principle of action for action."
President Choi said, "At yesterday’s emergency joint meeting, we shared this status and stressed that there must be absolutely no reversal of the position regarding the licensing exam," adding, "The Pan-Medical Community Struggle Committee (Pan-Committee) has ordered responses related to this starting next week." He also stated, "We want to resolve this issue as soon as possible and hope to address major medical community issues through dialogue with the government," and added, "We will also make thorough preparations to respond to legislation in the National Assembly."
The KMA refused to form a government-medical council after the government maintained its previous stance on the 29th that "retaking the exam is not allowed," and warned of strong actions in response. On the same day, President Choi wrote on Facebook that he would engage in a "non-compromising nationwide struggle."
