[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government plans to develop international standard proposals in the fields of green hydrogen production devices, fuel cells for laptops, hydrogen refueling protocols, and mobile hydrogen refueling stations by next year and submit them to the International Organization for Standardization.
The core is to establish a technology standardization strategy, including green hydrogen production devices using water electrolysis powered by renewable energy and safe and rapid hydrogen refueling protocols.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s National Institute of Technology and Standards announced that it will hold the "2020 Hydrogen Economy Technology and Standards International Forum" at 2 p.m. on the 30th at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul.
Experts from three countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and France (online), along with 50 domestic industry, academia, and research experts, will participate.
International standard experts participating in the forum will introduce the technology and standardization trends in green hydrogen production devices, hydrogen refueling protocols, and fuel cell fields. They will discuss the role of standards and cooperation plans for the expansion of the hydrogen economy.
In the panel discussion, international standardization work in the fields of green hydrogen production and hydrogen mobility will be discussed.
Discussants are expected to express opinions on the need for international cooperation in standardization for green hydrogen production devices and hydrogen mobility fuel cells.
The National Institute of Technology and Standards will announce the achievements following the establishment of the "Hydrogen Economy Standardization Strategy Roadmap" at the forum.
Last May, Korea registered its first international hydrogen economy standard, the "Micro Fuel Cell International Standard," and in June, it proposed the "Construction Machinery Fuel Cell International Standard."
Additionally, the institute stated that it plans to develop four international standard proposals in the fields of green hydrogen production devices, fuel cells for laptops, hydrogen refueling protocols, and mobile hydrogen refueling stations by next year in cooperation with the forum participating countries and submit them to the International Organization for Standardization.
In particular, two proposals in the fields of "green hydrogen production devices" and "fuel cells for laptops" are planned to be proposed by the end of this year.
Lee Seung-woo, head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, "Major advanced countries worldwide are accelerating the transition to a hydrogen economy through the development of low-carbon hydrogen technologies. Based on a cooperative network with global hydrogen technology experts, we will actively promote the international standardization of our technologies to contribute to the early implementation and successful expansion of the hydrogen economy, a core area of the Green New Deal policy."
Meanwhile, as part of the hydrogen economy policy, the National Institute of Technology and Standards established the "Hydrogen Economy Standardization Strategy Roadmap" in April last year.
In July, reflecting the government's Green New Deal policy, it announced a second standardization roadmap to increase the target number of international standard proposals from 15 to more than 18 by 2030.
To build an international standardization cooperation network, it also held the "Hydrogen Economy Standards International Forum" last year.
This year, it invited leaders of hydrogen technology international standards from the United States and Europe as online speakers to create a venue for technology exchange and standards cooperation.
