[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] The prosecution has requested a fine of 3 million won for Jo Hae-jin, a member of the People Power Party representing Gyeongnam Miryang, Changnyeong, Haman, and Uiryeong, who was indicted for distorting and publicizing opinion poll results during the April 15 general election.
According to the Miryang Branch of Changwon District Prosecutors' Office, the prosecution recently submitted the requested sentence for Jo to the Miryang Court in writing.
Jo is accused of distorting and publicizing opinion polls, including appearing on the YouTube channel 'Goseongguk TV' before the election and responding to the host's question, "If Hong Jun-pyo runs as an independent, will candidate Jo win?" by saying "He will win by a large margin."
Elected officials lose their position if they are sentenced to a fine of 1 million won or more for violating the Public Official Election Act.
The first trial verdict for Jo will be held at 2 p.m. on November 18 at the Miryang Branch of Changwon District Court.
