SH Corporation Launches Training Program for Universal Design Specialists

"Joint Development of Educational Programs for Creating Safe and Convenient Urban Residential Spaces"

[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) and the Seoul Metropolitan Universal Design Center announced on the 29th that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster and educate universal design professionals and will jointly promote related projects.

SH Corporation is preparing to introduce universal design throughout the public housing construction process to secure a foundation where diverse users can live together regardless of age, gender, disability, or nationality, aiming to provide housing services from the perspective of improving citizens' quality of life.

The Seoul Metropolitan Universal Design Center is a specialized research and implementation institution established by Seoul City as the first local government to promote universal design across public administration.

Both organizations are carrying out various projects to create a safe and convenient urban environment for all citizens, aiming to realize Seoul’s universal design comprehensive plan policy vision of “a people-centered city where everyone is respected.” Furthermore, based on this MOU, they plan to jointly undertake related projects such as ▲developing and distributing educational content for creating a universal design city ▲education for universal design workers and citizens ▲joint development, application, and dissemination of excellent universal design models.

In particular, as the first project to foster universal design professionals and spread excellent public housing models, they will jointly develop and operate an educational program called the “Universal Design Life Editor Expert Course” at the Urban Regeneration Life Technology School starting mid-next month.

The educational program consists of a total of 30 hours covering ▲understanding universal design ▲related policies and systems ▲understanding people ▲barrier-free space planning ▲housing environments for the elderly and children ▲universal design housing planning ▲color universal design ▲service design process, and will be conducted as online lectures by authorities in the universal design field. Any citizen interested in universal design can apply.

Kim Seyong, President of SH Corporation, said, “Through joint project promotion with the Seoul Metropolitan Universal Design Center, we will take the lead in creating an urban environment where everyone is respected in line with Seoul’s universal design comprehensive plan, and strengthen the cooperative system to provide various educational opportunities to workers and citizens in related fields.”

Meanwhile, online applications for the “Universal Design Life Editor Expert Course” will begin on the 11th of next month. Those who attend the entire course will receive a certificate of completion for the Life Editor Expert Course.
