Sugoong, Gyeongbuk Province, and Others Sign MOU to Promote Renewable Energy Activation..."Regional Win-Win New Deal Cooperation"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Water Resources Corporation signed a 'Business Agreement for the Activation of Regional Win-Win Renewable Energy' on the 29th with Gyeongsangbuk-do, Andong City, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea Energy Agency Renewable Energy Center, and Yeungnam University.

This agreement was prepared as part of the Korean New Deal policy to promote the distribution of regional win-win renewable energy and activate related industries within Gyeongsangbuk-do.

According to the agreement, the Water Resources Corporation will be responsible for renewable energy project development and overall management. Gyeongsangbuk-do will oversee administrative support such as discovering project sites and establishing cooperation systems with related organizations, while Andong City will handle various permits and enhance local residents' acceptance.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power will manage renewable energy development and supply certification-related tasks, the Energy Agency Renewable Energy Center will work on institutional improvements to activate renewable energy, and Yeungnam University will be in charge of technology development and training specialized personnel.

As a follow-up to the business agreement, the 'Imha Dam Floating Solar Power Project,' involving the Water Resources Corporation, Gyeongbuk, and Andong City, will be promoted as a pilot project.

The Imha Dam Floating Solar Power Project is a project to establish a 56 MW floating solar power generation complex, the largest scale among domestic dam-installed floating solar power plants, within a renewable energy cluster zone created by local governments. This amount of power can supply electricity for 24,300 households based on a three-person household for one year.

Additionally, the project will be promoted as a resident-friendly project in which nearby residents participate in investment, providing income generation opportunities for the residents.

It is also expected to contribute to the creation of local jobs and revitalization of the local economy by prioritizing the use of local companies and personnel for the transportation and installation of floating solar power-related equipment and materials.

Park Jae-hyun, President of the Water Resources Corporation, said, "Through this agreement, the development of renewable energy in the Gyeongbuk region will harmonize with the lives of local residents and demonstrate a model case of a regional balanced New Deal project that coexists and prospers together."
