Measurement of Nitrogen Dioxide Levels in Four Cities with High Proportion of Apple Suppliers
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Global investment bank Morgan Stanley has been found to use air pollution levels in major Chinese cities as an indicator to estimate Apple's iPhone production volume.
According to CNBC on the 28th (local time), Morgan Stanley is tracking nitrogen dioxide levels in four Chinese cities?Zhengzhou in Henan Province, Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, Chengdu in Sichuan Province, and Chongqing?to estimate the production volume of the iPhone 12.
These four cities have a significant presence of Apple's partner manufacturers in their industrial activities, and nitrogen dioxide levels in the air serve as a certain indicator of industrial activity.
Morgan Stanley used this method to estimate an increase in iPhone 12 production based on the recent surge in nitrogen dioxide levels in Zhengzhou, known as the "iPhone city."
Additionally, industrial activity in Chengdu and Chongqing has also recently increased.
CNBC explained that this technique was adopted in the process of finding clues to estimate the production level of the new product, the iPhone 12.
Meanwhile, Apple will announce its third-quarter earnings on the 29th (local time), but the sales volume of the iPhone 12 will not be reflected in this earnings report.
