[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 29th that it has been selected for the second consecutive year as a top-tier group in the '2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals Business Index (SDGBI)' global index announced by the UN SDGs (United Nations Economic and Social Council Special Consultative Status Organization) Association.
Among 3,000 companies worldwide, 300 were included in the global index, and among them, 28 companies were selected as the top-tier group.
SDGBI is a management analysis index based on the UN SDGs, published since 2016, and is a globally credible ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) evaluation indicator, officially introduced at the UN Headquarters High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (UNHLPF) last year.
This year, 28 leading global companies, including Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, Apple, Microsoft, and Coca-Cola, were listed alongside CJ CheilJedang.
SDGBI analyzes companies that demonstrate management most aligned with 48 indicators across 12 items in four areas: society, environment, economy, and institutions. In particular, it is divided into global and domestic indices based on 17 separate criteria such as global corporate operations, overseas listing status, cooperation with the UN and international organizations, global market share, response to global environmental issues, and certification status.
Companies listed in this year's global top-tier group will be introduced as major sustainable management cases in the international community through various UN SDGs platforms and will be awarded ESG certificates.
The UN SDGs Association highly evaluated CJ CheilJedang's ▲healthy food production ▲eco-friendly ecosystem establishment ▲management's commitment to sustainable management ▲global bio innovation ▲climate change response efforts ▲reduction of packaging material usage ▲use of natural raw materials.
A CJ CheilJedang official said, “We will do our best to continue management activities that live up to our reputation as a global food & bio company.”
