KT Launches Korea's First '5G Egg' with Wi-Fi 6 Applied

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT is launching the country's first portable WiFi device supporting 5G, called the ‘5G Egg’. The 5G Egg can be purchased at KT stores nationwide and the official online mall, KT Shop.

According to KT on the 29th, the 5G Egg is a device that converts 5G signals into WiFi, allowing wireless internet access on various devices. The KT 5G Egg applies the latest WiFi standard ‘WiFi 6’ with a maximum speed of 1.2Gbps and supports ‘dual-band technology’ that uses both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands simultaneously.

The KT 5G Egg can connect up to 16 devices simultaneously, making it useful for modern users who use multiple devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets at the same time. It also features a large-capacity 4000mAh battery, enabling customers who frequently travel for business trips to enjoy an uninterrupted wireless environment. The retail price of the KT 5G Egg is 429,000 KRW (VAT included). The 5G Egg plans include two options: ▲5G Egg 28GB and ▲5G Egg 14GB. The monthly fees are 30,000 KRW and 19,800 KRW, respectively. The official subsidies are 180,000 KRW and 120,000 KRW, respectively.

As a launch promotion, KT will provide customers who subscribe by the end of this year with more than double the basic data allowance for two years from the month of subscription. Thus, ▲5G Egg 28GB plan subscribers can use 60GB, and ▲5G Egg 14GB plan subscribers can use 30GB of data. For customer convenience, KT supports A/S services such as ▲defect symptom inspection and ▲issuance of defect confirmation certificates for exchanges at over 250 KT directly operated stores nationwide.

On Nam-seok, KT’s Executive Director of Emerging Terminal Business, said, “In the untact era, most of our work and daily life are conducted through wireless networks. KT, as the first in the country to launch the 5G Egg, will continue to introduce devices that contribute to customers’ lives.”
