LG CLOi Subbot to Assist in Specimen Transport at Medical Institutions

Supply by Iwon Medical Foundation and National Cancer Center

LG CLOi Subbot to Assist in Specimen Transport at Medical Institutions LG Electronics' LG CLOi ServeBot supplied to Iwon Medical Foundation is transporting specimens.

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG Electronics announced on the 29th that it recently supplied two units each of the LG CLOi ServeBot to Ewha Medical Foundation located in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, and the National Cancer Center located in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.

The CLOi ServeBot introduced by Ewha Medical Foundation is the first product to apply the elevator boarding and alighting function after LG Electronics received approval for the ‘Elevator Safety Inspection Special Case Recognition’ from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The CLOi ServeBot can ride elevators to move between floors and access 13 locations inside the building, including various examination rooms and laboratories. It accurately moves to the destination entered by the user by pre-identifying detailed location information on each floor.

The CLOi ServeBot can pass through automatic doors on its own. It communicates wirelessly with automatic doors using Bluetooth technology. When the CLOi ServeBot approaches an automatic door, the door recognizes that the robot is moving and opens.

LG Electronics also supplied the same product to the National Cancer Center. The CLOi ServeBot transports specimens back and forth between the Department of Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Pathology. It is scheduled to be upgraded by the end of this year to move between floors in coordination with elevators.

LG Electronics expects that when robots moving between floors are introduced in medical institutions, specimens and medicines can be transported quickly and safely regardless of time, allowing staff responsible for these tasks to focus more on core duties. The role of robots minimizing human contact is expected to grow, especially during times when non-face-to-face services are needed.

The CLOi ServeBot is useful not only in hospitals but also in hotels, offices, and other places. Each drawer can carry up to 5 kg, and the CLOi ServeBot with three drawers can carry up to 15 kg. To prevent theft or loss during delivery, it is equipped with a security lock. Additionally, administrators can remotely monitor the robot’s status and manage usage history and delivery schedules using the robot control system.

No Jin-seo, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Robot Business Center, said, “LG CLOi robots can improve medical staff’s work efficiency by replacing repetitive tasks such as non-face-to-face guidance and delivery,” adding, “We especially expect to provide various services without restrictions on moving between floors.”
