[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Former Prosecutor General Ahn Tae-geun, who was acquitted after being indicted on charges of retaliatory personnel actions to suppress Prosecutor Seo Ji-hyun's sexual harassment allegations, has filed a criminal compensation claim with the court.
According to the legal community on the 28th, former Prosecutor Ahn filed a criminal compensation claim with the Seoul Central District Court on the 22nd. Criminal compensation is a system where the state compensates for damages to those who were wrongfully detained, subjected to sentence execution, or incurred expenses due to trials.
Former Prosecutor Ahn was indicted on charges of intervening in the process of Prosecutor Seo's transfer from the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Yeoju Branch to the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office Tongyeong Branch while serving as the Director of the Prosecutor's Office at the Ministry of Justice in August 2015.
Both the first and second trials sentenced former Prosecutor Ahn to imprisonment, but the Supreme Court remanded the case with a verdict of not guilty, and the retrial court accepted the Supreme Court's intention, confirming the acquittal.
During the trial, former Prosecutor Ahn was detained for about a year but was released by the Supreme Court's decision for bail ex officio.
