Lee Je-hoon Grabs 'Dogul' by the Collar and Runs... Crime Entertainment Also Passes with Flying Colors [Comprehensive]

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] A rediscovery of Lee Je-hoon.

The movie Dogul was unveiled on the afternoon of the 28th at a press screening held at CGV Yongsan in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Lee Je-hoon, Jo Woo-jin, Shin Hye-sun, Lim Won-hee, and director Park Jeong-bae.

Dogul is a crime-entertainment film where the naturally gifted genius tomb raider Kang Dong-gu (Lee Je-hoon) teams up with experts nationwide to unearth buried relics underground, creating an exhilarating game. It is the directorial debut of Park Jeong-bae, who previously worked as an assistant director on films such as Miss Granny and Silenced.

Lee Je-hoon plays Kang Dong-gu, a born genius tomb raider who can recognize treasures just by tasting the soil, exuding a delightful charm.

Based on his solid acting skills built through numerous works like Architecture 101 (2012), I Can Speak, and Anarchist from Colony (2017), Lee Je-hoon grabs the reins of Dogul and drives it forward. He portrays a character with an inscrutable, sly charm, maintaining a strong center.

Previously, Lee Je-hoon was known for consistently portraying serious and weighty roles in many works. This time, he relaxed and lightly infused a rhythmic variation into Dogul, painting an attractive Kang Dong-gu. He also smoothly handled the crime-entertainment genre, which he challenged for the first time, proving new possibilities.

In Dogul, Lee Je-hoon reveals a new side by delivering shameless lies without changing his expression, sporting a beard, and performing vigorous action scenes. He does not hesitate to appear shirtless and in just underwear, even acting out a sweet kissing scene.

Thus, Dogul can be considered a comprehensive gift set that encapsulates Lee Je-hoon's charm. He naturally internalizes even difficult related terminology and delivers a relaxed performance.

At the press conference that day, Lee Je-hoon reflected on the special meaning by saying, “I was always happy on set. I thought about how to enjoy and have fun today.”

Regarding the intense scenes of digging tunnels, Lee Je-hoon said, “Acting in muddy water was not easy,” but added, “I threw myself into it with the mindset of ‘Let’s roll well, act without getting hurt, and go back to the dorm to wash up.’ Dogul was joy and happiness to me.”

Lee Je-hoon overcame the hurdle called Dogul before him and demonstrated another possibility. We welcome his return after three years since I Can Speak (2017).
