Jeju Coast Guard Agency Launches Special Crackdown on 'Marine Safety Violators' Jeju Regional Coast Guard Headquarters

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency (Chief Kim Seongjong) announced on the 28th that, in cooperation with the Jeju Marine Fisheries Management Team, it has been conducting a special crackdown on marine safety violation offenders from September 1 to November 30 to prevent safety accidents involving cargo ships and fishing vessels operating in the Jeju waters.

The main targets of the special crackdown are △ violations of securing guidelines △ overloading and overboarding △ violations of crew standards △ illegal ship extension and modification △ impairment of ship stability △ fishing vessels operating outside territorial waters, etc.

During this special crackdown period, each affiliated office of the Jeju Maritime Police Agency has formed dedicated teams consisting of patrol vessels, criminal motorboats, and police substations to conduct comprehensive crackdowns both at sea and on land. In addition, joint crackdowns related to safe navigation targeting cargo ships are being carried out in cooperation with the Jeju Marine Fisheries Management Team (maritime safety supervisors).

So far, a total of 38 cases involving 44 people have been cracked down on, including two cargo ships violating securing guidelines that were penalized for violating the Ship Safety Act in cooperation with the Jeju Marine Fisheries Management Team. Through this joint crackdown in collaboration with related organizations, we were able to effectively crack down on marine safety violation acts, and we will continue to do our best to prevent marine safety accidents through ongoing enforcement.”

Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, the Jeju Maritime Police Agency cracked down on a total of 45 cases involving 59 people for marine safety violation offenses, including 6 cases of failure to undergo ship safety inspections involving 6 people, 3 cases of overloading and overboarding involving 6 people, and 3 cases of unlicensed operation involving 3 people.
