[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Professor Kim Geunsik of Gyeongnam National University, chairman of the People Power Party’s Songpa-byeong district committee in Seoul, rebutted Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Namguk, who criticized his writing as "excrement level," by saying, "Criticism gets reported, but excrement gets buried," on the 28th.

On that day, Professor Kim said in a post on his Facebook, "Lawmaker Kim, what I am saying is not 'excrement' but 'criticism.' You should be able to distinguish at least that much."

He accused, "The comments by the senseless 'Daeggae-moon' (a derogatory term for blind supporters of President Moon Jae-in) on my Facebook are excrement."

Also, Professor Kim agreed with lawmaker Kim’s claim that the prosecution is not actively investigating the Lime and Optimus cases, and argued, "Since the current prosecution is not actively investigating the Lime and Optimus cases, let’s entrust it to a special prosecutor."

He continued, "The Lime investigation is being handled by the Southern District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jungsoo), and the Optimus case by the Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Seongyun). As lawmaker Kim pointed out, they are not investigating even one-hundredth of what was done in the Cho Kuk investigation. We should entrust it to a trustworthy special prosecutor for a proper investigation."

He added, "Especially, the responsibility of then Central District Prosecutor General Yoon Seokyoul, who dismissed the 2018 investigation request on the Korea Radio Promotion Association as no charges, will also be revealed. But in fact, at that time, the Central District Prosecutors’ Office was too busy conducting the anti-corruption investigations ordered by the Moon Jae-in administration to pay attention to other cases. And the Democratic Party cheered for the anti-corruption investigations being done well."

Professor Kim raised his voice, saying, "Starting from the Blue House senior secretaries and administrative officers suspected in connection with Lime and Optimus, to the Financial Supervisory Service officials, heads of public institutions who joined the investments, current and former Democratic Party lawmakers and regional committee heads, opposition party lawmakers, and even prosecution lobbyists, all must be strictly investigated to clearly reveal the truth and be firmly punished."

Finally, he said, "Previously, Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Kyunghyup also proposed a special prosecutor on the condition that the opposition submit recommendation members for the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO). And today, lawmaker Kim, who is from the Cho Kuk defense group, criticized that the investigation is not being done properly," adding, "I hope the two of you work hard to enable a special prosecutor investigation. If possible, it would look even better if Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Yongmin, who is close to lawmaker Kim, also joins in the effort."

Earlier, lawmaker Kim posted on his Facebook a post titled "Why weren’t the Lime and Optimus cases investigated as diligently as the investigation of former Minister Cho Kuk," criticizing Professor Kim, former Dongyang University professor Jin Joongkwon, and Dankook University medical school professor Seo Min.

In the post, he said, "If the first Optimus case, which the Korea Radio Promotion Association requested an investigation for on October 24, 2018, had been investigated even one-hundredth as much as the investigation of former Minister Cho Kuk, additional damages of about 840 billion won could have been prevented," and pointed out, "The prosecution chief only zealously conducted political investigations he wanted, and seems to have done a 'shoddy investigation' by overlooking the livelihood cases that should have been investigated with full force."

He continued, "I don’t know how we can trust a prosecution chief who only zealously conducts political investigations," and raised his voice, "Especially, how are the people supposed to understand such an irresponsible prosecution chief who, without properly grasping such an important case, comes to the National Assembly and gives answers like 'I don’t know well because it was handled by the department head’s decision,' or 'It’s okay in the end because it was indicted three months later'?"

Finally, lawmaker Kim concluded, "Why does the media not criticize or raise issues about these parts, but only shamelessly praise Prosecutor General Yoon Seokyoul? Only the excrement-level writings thoughtlessly spat out by people like Jin Joongkwon, Seo Min, and Kim Geunsik are reported one after another. The cases that should actually be reported are not covered. There must be a huge vested interest group moving society," he said.
