[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] The Changwon City Waterworks Office in Gyeongnam has received international certification for water quality management for six consecutive years.

This certification was awarded after participating in the 2020 international proficiency test hosted by the Environmental Resource Association (ERA) and Sigma-Aldrich, where all items met the standards and passed, recognizing the institution as a water quality testing agency in the field of drinking water.

The Environmental Resource Association and Sigma-Aldrich are globally recognized proficiency test operators in the environmental sector, conducting annual international proficiency tests to evaluate the reliability and accuracy of measurement and analysis data from analytical institutions worldwide.

The international proficiency evaluation involves providing samples containing unknown substances at certain concentrations to analytical institutions, then comparing the measured values of participating institutions for each evaluation item against standard values to assess conformity or nonconformity.

Notably, in this international proficiency evaluation, Changwon City added the aluminum item to the domestic proficiency evaluation items, obtaining international certification for a total of 18 items, thereby gaining international recognition for its excellent analytical technology and the accuracy and reliability of drinking water quality tests, including tap water supplied within the jurisdiction.

Kwon Kyung-man, head of the Waterworks Office, stated, “With this result, our city's testing and analytical capabilities in the field of drinking water have been internationally recognized for six consecutive years. We will do our best to produce tap water that citizens can trust and drink safely.”
