Introduction of Excellent Cases in 1004 Island Sinan, Presenting New Alternatives to Pyeongtaek City

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] On the afternoon of the 27th, Park Woo-ryang, the mayor of Shinan County, held an ‘Innovation Special Lecture with the Shinan County Mayor’ for all former public officials at the Pyeongtaek City Hall main conference room.

According to Shinan County on the 28th, this special lecture was held at the invitation of Pyeongtaek City to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the sisterhood between Shinan County and Pyeongtaek City, and the ceremony for awarding Park the honorary citizenship of Pyeongtaek was held together.

On the 17th, Shinan County and Pyeongtaek City held an island proclamation ceremony recognizing Gageodo Island as an honorary administrative district of Pyeongtaek City, along with a monument unveiling ceremony. Pyeongtaek City was the first local government nationwide to share Shinan County’s island, making the relationship between the two cities and counties very special.

In the special lecture, Mayor Park presented the story of the 1004 Islands, created by changing his long-held thoughts about the future of islands, and suggested the direction of innovation he hopes for Pyeongtaek City.

In the story of the 1004 Islands of Shinan, he introduced night ferry operations, a fully public bus system, renewable energy, administrative innovation, the pilgrim’s island, the fantasy garden (Banyan tree forest trail), and the outdoor angel statue sculpture park.

Regarding the external aspects suggested for Pyeongtaek City, he proposed a city with unique colors and appearance, a city with many small parks, a city with many small museums and art galleries, and a city with hope in education. Internally, he suggested administration where executives propose alternatives to the mayor, administration where party and non-party tasks are entrusted to the mayor, administration leading legal enactment and revision, a city with lush forests, a city flourishing with culture and arts, and a city where citizens are happy, continuing his passionate lecture.

Mayor Park Woo-ryang concluded the special lecture by saying, “I ask all employees to take the lead in making Shinan County and Pyeongtaek City exemplary local governments through innovation in each field and to create autonomous districts where residents and citizens are happy.”
