[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jaehee] On the 28th, major foreign media reported that the Chinese video-sharing application TikTok plans to hire about 3,000 engineers over the next three years in Canada, Europe, Singapore, and other regions.

A TikTok spokesperson stated, "We have decided to expand our global engineering team to support the rapid growth of the company."

TikTok said, "We will also increase staff in the United States, where there is pressure to sell shares," adding, "The U.S. will continue to be a major technology hub."

Currently, among TikTok engineers, about 1,000 work outside China, with half of them based in the United States.

Previously, the Donald Trump administration effectively ordered a 'forced sale' of TikTok citing national security concerns. Accordingly, the U.S. enterprise software company Oracle acquired a stake in TikTok.

However, negotiations over the sale have faced difficulties as ByteDance, the Chinese operator of TikTok, announced it will not relinquish control of 'TikTok Global,' the company to be established by the two parties.
