[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced that 3,512 applicants applied for 416 recruitment positions in the ‘2021 Academic Year Public and Private Secondary School Teacher Candidate Selection Competitive Examination,’ resulting in an average competition rate of 8.4 to 1.


This competition rate is slightly lower than last year’s, when 3,706 applicants applied for 428 recruitment positions, showing a competition rate of 8.7 to 1.


According to this year’s application results, 2,861 applicants applied for the general recruitment of 284 public secondary school teachers, showing a competition rate of 10.1 to 1, and 16 applicants applied for the general recruitment of 2 public secondary special school teachers, showing a competition rate of 8 to 1.


For the recruitment of 21 positions reserved for persons with disabilities, 23 applicants applied, showing a competition rate of 1.1 to 1. Additionally, 612 applicants applied for 109 recruitment positions for private secondary school teachers, which are commissioned by the Metropolitan Office of Education, showing a competition rate of 5.6 to 1.


By subject, Korean had the highest competition rate with 464 applicants for 24 recruitment positions, at 19.3 to 1, while Technology had the lowest with 19 applicants for 8 recruitment positions, at 2.4 to 1.


Among applicants for public school teachers (first choice), 1,178 applicants also applied for private schools as their second choice, an increase of 101 from last year’s 1,077.


By age group, applicants in their 20s were the most numerous with 2,184 (62.2%), followed by those in their 30s with 1,024 (29.1%), and those aged 40 and above with 304 (8.7%). By gender, females numbered 2,499 (71.2%), significantly more than males at 1,013 (28.8%). The oldest applicant was a 55-year-old female.


The location for the first exam will be announced on the Metropolitan Office of Education’s website at 10 a.m. on November 13. Examinees must enter the exam room at the designated test site by 8:30 a.m. on November 21, carrying their admission ticket and identification card.
