[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced that on the 28th at 11 a.m., it will hold the opening ceremony of the 'Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Energy Technology Market' at KEPCO's Power Research Institute in Daejeon, with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and 14 energy public institutions participating.
The platform was launched to support technology development and early commercialization of excellent products by SMEs in the energy sector.
The opening ceremony will be attended by 20 people, including Ahn Ilhwan, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Kim Jonggap, President of KEPCO, heads of 14 energy public institutions, and representatives of SMEs.
The 'SME Energy Technology Market' is an online integrated platform for SME support developed since April under KEPCO’s leadership, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and 14 energy public institutions through a task force (TF).
Through this platform, SMEs can simultaneously access research and development (R&D) project calls, technology transfers, promotion, and marketing projects that were previously operated separately by each public institution. It is expected to improve information accessibility and convenience.
Additionally, an 'innovation evaluation' will be conducted on excellent SME-developed products. After undergoing a public interest evaluation, SME products designated as innovative products can be purchased directly by the government, local governments, and public institutions.
Kim Jonggap, President of KEPCO, stated in his commemorative speech, "'SME Energy Technology Market' is a 'communication channel for exchange and cooperation' where energy public institutions and excellent SMEs join forces to develop and commercialize innovative products and technologies."
President Kim added, "If the passion and technological capabilities of excellent SMEs are combined with the credibility of public institutions, competitiveness and stability in the market will greatly increase. This will provide new business opportunities for SMEs that have been unable to participate in the public procurement market due to lack of delivery records."
A KEPCO official said, "Going forward, KEPCO plans to actively implement SME support projects linked to government policies such as the 'Korean New Deal' in cooperation with the government and energy public institutions, striving for mutual growth with SMEs."
