[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The People Power Party hinted at the possibility of President Moon Jae-in not attending the National Assembly's policy speech and pressured the government and ruling party to accept a special prosecution investigation into the Lime and Optimus private equity fund scandals.
On the 27th, Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, told reporters immediately after a party meeting at the National Assembly, "The decision on whether to attend tomorrow's policy speech will be finalized after reviewing the Blue House's response to the 10 questions submitted by the People Power Party."
During the meeting, opinions were shared on how to enforce the special prosecution investigation. Choi Hyung-doo, the party's floor spokesperson, briefed during the meeting, saying, "There is a debate about an overnight sit-in and attendance at the president's policy speech," adding, "There are differing views on how effective an overnight relay protest would be, and although it has been customary for all parties to attend the policy speech, there are various opinions on how to proceed this time."
The People Power Party gathered opinions through the meeting and decided to hold a relay protest rally at the National Assembly main building. They will not hold the originally planned overnight sit-in but will conduct another relay protest rally on the morning of the 28th. Regarding attendance at the policy speech, they said, "Attendance is the leading option," but added, "There are differing opinions, so the final decision will be made by the floor leadership tomorrow."
Floor leader Joo criticized Choi Jae-sung, the Blue House senior secretary for political affairs, for causing confusion by not delivering the response document to the '10 questions' despite having it, and urged the Blue House to provide answers again.
He said, "While there has been no response to the 10 questions, we have additionally inquired about 10 new issues," emphasizing, "The president should provide clear answers to the 20 serious questions before visiting the National Assembly. Only with sincere answers can the call for cooperation be genuine." He continued, "Shouldn't we firmly uncover the truth about the Lime and Optimus private equity fund scandals through a special prosecution investigation and punish those responsible?" and appealed, "Let us unite to reprimand the arrogance and tyranny of the Democratic Party of Korea."
