Ministry of Foreign Affairs "Welcomes Signing of Libya Ceasefire Agreement... Hopes for Establishment of Peace and Stability"


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The government has expressed its welcome for the signing of a ceasefire agreement between the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA).


On the 27th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a spokesperson's comment, "The government welcomes the signing of the ceasefire agreement between the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA) at the 5+5 Joint Military Commission held in Geneva on the 23rd," adding, "We hope that the faithful implementation of this ceasefire agreement will bring genuine peace and stability to Libya."


On the 23rd, in Libya, North Africa, which has been suffering from civil war, the Libyan Government of National Accord and the Libyan National Army agreed to a ceasefire. After military negotiations held in Geneva since the 19th, both sides agreed to open land and air routes.


Libya fell into civil war after Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army, ordered an advance on western Tripoli in April last year. It is reported that over 1,000 people, including civilians, have died due to the fighting between the two sides.
