[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gyeongnam National University announced on the 27th that its Ssireum team won first place in the college division team competition at the "50th Chairman's National Ssireum Championship" held at the Goseong-gun National Sports Center in Gyeongnam.
Players Choi Won-jun (Department of Physical Education, 3rd year), Moon Ki-taek (same), Kim Tae-woo (same, 4th year), Kang Sung-in (same, 4th year), Wang Deok-hyun (same, 3rd year), Kim Jong-seon (same, 2nd year), and Kim Tae-hwan (Department of Sports Science, 1st year) won the championship with a final score of 4 to 3 after a close match against Yeungnam University in the college division team finals.
Additionally, in the individual competition of this tournament, Choi Won-jun and Moon Ki-taek each won gold medals in the lightweight class (under 75 kg) and the welterweight class (under 80 kg), respectively. Kim Tae-woo won a silver medal in the middleweight class (under 85 kg).
Coach Mo Je-wook said, "I am pleased with the good results in the first competition held this year despite COVID-19, and I am very proud and thankful to our players who gave their best." He also expressed gratitude to Coach Noh Myung-sik, saying, "Since a young coach was appointed this year, the atmosphere of the team has greatly improved, and their skills have also increased significantly."
