'Youth Are the Standard and the Rule'... Direct Youth Participation in Design Through Workshop... VR Sports, Holograms, Exciting Dance Practice, and Party Rooms for Youth!
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held the opening ceremony of the four-story youth-exclusive space 'Jangwi Youth Culture Nurim Center' (89-6 Jangwol-ro, Seongbuk-gu) on the 24th and began its operation.
This marks the birth of a new facility that realizes youth welfare befitting the ideals of Seongbuk-gu as a child-friendly city.
'Jangwi Youth Culture Nurim Center' is a youth cultural space with a total floor area of 477.80㎡, newly constructed as part of the Seoul-type urban regeneration project on the site of the existing study room, which was originally created and operated in a house donated by a philanthropist dedicated to youth welfare. The building consists of one basement floor and three above-ground floors.
The facility's name embodies the meaning of 'a place where youth can freely enjoy culture in their daily lives,' and it is expected to serve as a hub space for culture, play, rest, and learning for the youth of Seongbuk-gu.
In January last year, Seongbuk-gu conducted a 'Youth Culture Space Design Workshop' with local youth, reflecting the opinions presented at that time in the design.
The facility is diversely composed of spaces where youth can enjoy various play, rest, cultural, and learning activities, including ▲‘Raonnurim,’ an indoor dance practice and VR sports experience space ▲‘Hyeyumnurim,’ a VR sports, hologram, and one-person media production space ▲‘Attinurim,’ a youth culture caf? with board games, dart games, and community activities ▲‘Dadanurim,’ a youth program and study space ▲‘Urinurim,’ a party room and cooking experience space.
Upon entering the ‘Attinurim’ caf? on the first floor of the center, the operational direction of the center, stating ‘Youth are our most important standard and rule,’ written on the wall of the staircase on the second floor, catches the eye.
A district official said, “This place will serve as a hub and landmark for local youth in the future, and it expresses the intention that youth will not remain mere beneficiaries but will actively participate in the operation and development of the center.”
At the opening ceremony, Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, “The Jangwi Youth Culture Nurim Center is a model case that actively reflects the demands and understanding of youth in facility design and design, which will be a factor in revitalizing center operations by increasing youth user satisfaction. Through various activities and programs tailored to the needs of youth, we will strive to establish it as a facility that realizes ‘Child and Youth-Friendly Seongbuk,’ where children and youth are happy, and coexists with local residents.”
The operating hours of Jangwi Youth Culture Nurim Center are from Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and it is closed on public holidays and Mondays.
