Gwangju City to Inspect Large Construction Sites Starting from the 28th Gwangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection of the management status of large-scale construction sites such as roads, water supply and sewage, and buildings from the 28th of this month to the 27th of next month to prevent poor construction and safety accidents in large construction projects.

The inspection will be carried out on 10 large construction projects with a total construction cost of 5 billion KRW or more, commissioned and under construction by Gwangju City and its affiliated organizations, by forming a public-private joint inspection team consisting of 20 external experts including local construction technology review committee members.

The inspection will focus on ▲ safety management status of temporary structures and other facilities at construction sites ▲ construction management, quality control, and material management status ▲ environmental management measures such as dust reduction ▲ winter season construction schedule plans ▲ installation status of traffic control facilities and guide signs ▲ and citizen inconvenience issues.

In particular, special attention will be paid to the construction site response measures and compliance with preventive rules to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19 during the guidance and inspection.

Additionally, the inspection will emphasize construction safety by raising awareness among constructors and construction management technicians about safety accidents at construction sites, and by encouraging on-site workers to take the lead in safety management, aiming to reduce accidents and fatalities at construction sites.

Minor issues found during the inspection will be corrected or supplemented on-site, while sites with poor construction will be strictly dealt with by requiring repairs and reinforcements and imposing penalty points according to the degree of deficiency. Outstanding sites will be commended at the end of the year.

Kim Kyung-ho, head of the Construction Administration Division of the city, said, “We conduct management status inspections of large construction sites twice a year, and in the first half of this year, we inspected 11 construction sites and provided 183 on-site corrections and technical consultations. We will focus on preventing poor construction and safety accidents through this inspection.”
