Regarding the Surge in COVID-19 Cases: "Due to Increased Testing"
Conspiracy Theories of Biden Spy Activities Also Raised During the 2016 Presidential Election
[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] U.S. President Donald Trump launched an all-out effort for a last-minute turnaround on the 24th (local time), ten days before the presidential election on the 3rd of next month, crisscrossing four states in the South and North.
On that day, President Trump cast his early in-person vote in Florida, then held three rallies in North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin, before returning to the White House in Washington DC in a grueling schedule.
Florida, North Carolina, and Wisconsin are among the six battleground states that will decide the presidential election, while Ohio is classified as a competitive state where Democratic candidate Joe Biden is fiercely pursuing.
According to foreign media, President Trump said at the rally, "This election is a choice between Trump's 'super recovery' and Biden's 'depression.'"
Fox News reported, "President Trump portrayed himself as the figure leading economic recovery and supporting American workers, while Biden was depicted as the one who would block improvements."
Regarding the serious resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the U.S., with numbers soaring to record highs, Trump blamed the increase on more testing rather than the media.
He said, "When you turn on the TV, all you see is COVID-19. Even if a plane crashes killing 500 people, the media only talks about COVID-19," adding, "You won't hear about it anymore on November 4th, the day after the election."
President Trump stated, "The media says the U.S. has a high number of infections, but that's because we do more testing," arguing that more tests lead to more confirmed cases compared to other countries.
He mocked Democratic candidate Joe Biden's two outdoor rallies held in cars to comply with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, calling them "small" compared to his own rallies.
He said, "People are in their cars, which I don't understand," and "There were too few vehicles. I've never seen an audience like that."
Despite concerns about the spread of infection, President Trump insists on holding outdoor rallies attended by thousands of people who do not properly wear masks or observe social distancing.
On the same day, he renewed allegations that Biden's son, Hunter Biden, received illicit money after being hired as an executive at a Ukrainian energy company, launching a moral attack.
He appealed for support, saying, "Americans have seen the contrast between a 47-year career politician (Biden) who used public office to accumulate wealth and a businessman (Trump) who entered public office."
He also raised a conspiracy theory that then-President Barack Obama and Vice President Biden spied on his 2016 presidential campaign, and the audience chanted "Lock them up," according to The New York Times.
President Trump claimed that Biden intends to cut Social Security and played a video during the rally in which Senator Bernie Sanders criticized Biden on this issue.
Earlier, President Trump completed early in-person voting at a polling station in West Palm Beach, Florida, his place of residence. His wife, Melania Trump, is reported by CNN to plan to vote in person on election day, November 3rd.
